While we are no longer in Portland, I find myself still thinking about the place and perusing real estate ads on RedFin. One can always dream, eh? I start to picture what life could be like for the family in an area that actually has trees, serious ones, and real rivers, unlike that of Phoenix that artificially created a city out of the desert and may, one day, just simply dry up. Biking and running trails just out the back door. City parks that make one forget you're anywhere near a city.
Portland isn't all roses. It's also a very mockable city. The amount of homeless people I saw was striking - there are seriously people on nearly every street corner. Evidence of bush dwellers was everywhere, even on my runs through the park or along the bike path. I suspect it has something to do with the mild summers, and I also suspect that a good number of these very same folks migrate to Phoenix during the winter. And they've got a serious problem with meth and drug abuse. They're a city gone crazy on building permits so most people try to hide the fact that they want to change little Billy's room into a sitting room after he's all grown up and out of the house.
I came across a show recently from IFC called Portlandia. Clips can be watched at Hulu.com. I have graciously watched every available clip to provide you with my favorite takes that will leave you rolling in laughter. (Someone had to do it). Portland is mockable for sure as it has a unique, artsy culture that attracts interesting people from all over the world.
So check these out and let me know which ones you liked the best. A word of warning... while these are all quite tame, some of the other clips not listed here aren't exactly family fare.
