Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall in Oregon and the state's most popular hiking trail, located just east of Portland along the spectacular Columbia River Gorge. We visited on a very beautiful and consequently busy Saturday afternoon. Just to find parking I had to drive down the road another 1/3rd mile, hike down to the railroad track and jog up to the main lodge and parking area. Whew! But our trip was well worth it. (Naomi has visited the falls as a child and didn't go with us as the accompanied Amy and the younger children to a really fun water park of sorts where the kids could enjoy getting soaked on a hot summer day.)
From this vantage point, we planned to hike all the way to the top of the falls (about a 2.2 mile round trip).
