Blackberries
Believe me. Timing is everything. We planned our trip to Oregon and Washington to coincide with great weather and that is mostly what we've been getting (though the high temperatures seem to follow us wherever we're going). This time of year is perfect for foraging in Oregon and blackberry bushes literally litter the highways and byways. If you've got the patience to brave the prickly bushes (which we do) you can really score bucket loads full of fresh, juicy berries.Powell Butte & Black-Tailed Deer
Powell Butte is an extinct volcanic cinder cone butte that has great nature trails perfect for hiking, running, biking and birding. It has been the main destination for me as I go out for runs as it is only 10 minutes jog away through the residential area over to the bike lane. Within the park I tend to start at Black-Tailed Deer Trail and have now seen black tailed deer not once, but twice during my visits. That's a pretty good percentage of sightings considering I've only been here one week!
I'm just flipping out at the beauty of the area. The tall trees I so desperately miss living in Africa (and going there from Phoenix before that). At the Springwater Corridor bike trail, off in the distance on clear days I have a great view of the snowcapped Mt. Hood (not visible in the pictures I took and didn't post so you'll just have to imagine it).
